Gift Subscription Espresso

Laguna Verde in the Espresso Subscription

We are proud to introduce our new subscription coffee from Nicaragua: This espresso opens with a sparkling acidity and citrus notes that are soon overlaid by candied lemon. The sweetness combines hints of blackberry compot and milk chocolate. A syrupy mouthfeel soon gives way to a walnut aftertaste.

About the farm

Laguna Verde is located inside the Arenal Nature Reserve in the department of Matagalpa – close to other farms owned by Mierish Family like La Huella and Mama Mina. Covered in fog for over 60% of the day during the harvest season, it has a very unique micro-climate. The farm «auto-shades» itself and does not require many shade trees. The relatively high altitude of the farm and fog also create cooler temperatures which help in the slow maturation of the cherries.

About the producer’s family history

In the late 1800s, Bruno Mierisch Boettiger, a German geologist, was hired to assist the Nicaraguan government in the construction of their National Railroad. Upon completion of his work, the Nicaraguan government was unable to pay him. As a compensation, these he was offered land in the high mountains of Matagalpa. Bruno then chose to take part in the burgeoning coffee revolution taking place in Nicaragua. In 1908, he planted his first coffee tree on the farm. His legacy continues to live on till this day under the guidance of his great-great grandchildren.

Erwin Jr, Eleane and Steve, the 4th generation, propelled Nicaraguan coffee into the international spotlight. Through their involvement in organizing, judging, and participating in the «Cup of Excellence» program since the 2000’s, they’ve learned all the hard work it takes to produce high quality specialty coffee – which they’re still fully committed to today.
